From the rising of the sun…

Completely out of the blue, I woke up at 5am this morning feeling hungry! I fought the feeling for a while, but at 5:30 by stomach and the little wee life inside me, got me up out of bed to make porridge! I laughed to myself as I was awake for the rising of the sun, the other half of the psalm I wrote about yesterday. So, I cooked up some oatmeal on the hob, made tea, and settled on the couch to read my book. And I reminded myself what is most important as the sun rose around me: The Lord’s name is to be praised.

Throughout the day I kept coming back to the psalm in my mind and trying to realign my thoughts to this. But, as you probably also find, it is hard to praise the Lord all day when you find yourself up to your eyeballs in chores, tasks and unexpected¬†problem solving! Before you know it, the clutter that has stacked up in the kitchen, on your desk, or in your handbag is almost as much as the clutter accumulating in your frazzled mind! By lunchtime I realised that praising the Lord had been long forgotten since about 9am…

I was disappointed in myself by 10pm tonight that my day had become so busy and unpraising, so task orientated, leaving little time for gratitude. But guess this is where grace comes in, and tomorrow the sun will rise again: another opportunity to start afresh. As it says in Psalm 118 verse 24, “This is the day that the lord has made, we will rejoice and be glad in it.Tomorrow is a new day.
